Hey SBC!
That picture while humbling, doesn't necessarily give one a wide opening to direct blame God's way. I think that picture is more of an indictment of the leaders within that country who've failed their people, or even the leaders of neighboring countries. Matter fact, lets take it a step further considering we're now part of a global economy, in that a measure of fault can be put upon countries of greater means who would rather put their rather significant resources towards self-serving interests with utter disregard to their neighbors and in some cases at the cost of their neighbors. One might consider examples such as Darfur, or Somalia. The conflict in the former, and the anarchy within the latter had absolutely no bearing on the Western world until it affected them. With Darfur, it was that enough people made a stink about it, particulary Hollywood, and with Somalia, it took some some commercial ships getting the equivalent of a seaside carjacking before it finally got back on the radar post-Josh Hartnett era.
You know what though, most people including myself still don't care enough if at all about those situations or even the turmoil right here on our own soil. I don't believe that's something that can be blamed on God as the buck starts and stops with us. The question of this thread is that if you knew a murder was going to take place, would you do something to stop it? I know for a fact that if I go to Google News right now at this very moment, and do a search for murder, I'll get a ton of results. Despite the police, despite the overwhelming community being law-abiding citizens, there are some people are just going to do what they do. Short of a police state, in a country that pats its own back for championing the free will of its people, nothing will eliminate violence as its par with the territory called, freedom. Short of pharmaceutical companies producing a drug that stimulates empathy and combats apathy, we will always have poverty and injustice. We can go on and on, but at the end of the day, the fault rests with us as humans.
Guns don't kill people, and disregarding the Old Testament God doesn't kill people, but rather people kill people. God doesn't let people starve, but rather the apathetic public at large lets them starve. To be fair to the public, the problems are large and complex, but our shortcomings are still not being given the consideration that's merit. For the record, I have some major beefs with God and Jesus, but those subjects are off topic, so I'm gonna hold that piece at this time. But here's a couple pictures for you.
edit post: when it comes to natural disasters, I don't know where to begin in how to defend God or Christ .

Frank Ocean is my addiction right now. Check out the song Voodoo just to get started.

I tried to get into Frank Ocean based on word of mouth, and I downloaded Ultra last year but it just didn't do anything for me. I'm gonna give it another listen as he does have a great voice, but the music just didn't do anything for me at the time. Thanks for posting this though as I've been meaning to give him another crack.
I've been really listening to Kendrick Lamar lately, his track, The Recipe is heroin to the ears. I'm dying to hear Nas' new album too as I love his track The Don.

Depending on what day of the week, I might answer this differently, but as it stands now on this dreary Wednesday afternoon.......I'd say if God exists, He dignifies us to some degree by not holding our hand every step of the way similar to that of an experienced parent's relationship with adult offspring. The parent can reason with their adult son or daughter on certain matters, but only so much. Due to experience and wisdom the parent can often tell which direction their offspring's life is headed based upon their speech and actions. Yet, ultimately whatever the son/daughter chooses to do, or chooses to say, or chooses to think, will be up to that sole individual and not their parent. It's the reason I believe the story of Cain & Abel is in the Scriptures as it's a lesson involving pride, humility, and wisdom. God gave Cain a heads up that his heart was crooked and if he didn't check himself, he was likely going to do something regrettable. Could God have simply eliminated Cain and prevented Abel's untimely demise? Sure, but who's to say Cain wouldn't have reasoned that maybe God's right, and then maybe take steps to adjust his outlook?
The same can be said about Jonah's views toward the Ninevites, or Jacob's views towards Esau years after their birthright conflict? Those examples are minor when compared to the complexity of the problems mankind is dealing with now, however, that doesn't really give humans the excuse to play the blame game with God.

Deliverance has often come through being identified as one of Jehovah’s Witnesses. Because of the house-to-house preaching, people get to know who the Witnesses are and what their position is on issues of the day. In a small village in Peru, terrorists accused the villagers of having betrayed them. They rounded up the men of the town and put them in a line to be shot. (In similar situations entire villages had been wiped out.) But at this point, one of the terrorists recognized a brother and said to the executioners: “That man is not one of them. I know him to be a Jehovah’s Witness, and they don’t meddle in politics.” The brother was released. Certainly, Jehovah protects his own!

When I arrived in Cape Town, I was shown 200 cartons of literature destined for East Africa. The literature was printed in four European and four Asian languages, but none of it was in any of the African languages. When I inquired why all this literature was there before I even arrived, I was told that this had been intended for Frank and Gray Smith, two pioneers who had recently gone to Kenya to preach. Almost as soon as they arrived in Kenya, both contracted malaria, and sadly, Frank died.

I noticed right away that on the Friday morning symposium "Beware of Dangerous Heart Conditions!", they neglected to include the dangerous heart condition, hoof-hearted.
Um, if you don't "get it", say it out loud a couple of times hoof-hearted
Too early in the morning, so it took me a few second to get this, my coworker overheard me and said, "I don't smell anything, but it wasn't me!"
As far as the program goes, I don't think medical or pharmaceutical literature related to cardiovascular related issues mention "heart" that much. A bit overkill on stressing what the overall theme of the program is. It's almost like there was a battle to see if they could fit "heart" in more times than a typical WT article mentions the name, Jehovah.
The title of the talk during the latter part of the Saturday afternoon session entitled, "Rejoice In Your Youth (Ecc 11:9-12:1)" made me chuckle as that's an oxymoron if there ever was one when it comes to being a young Jehovah's Witness. Ecc 12:1 says, "Remember your Creator in the days of your youth, before the days of trouble come and the years will approach when you will say, "I find no pleasure in them." Speaking personally as a born-in, my experiences weren't hell per say, but I definately hold a fair measure of resentment for all of the experiences that other non-JW youth enjoyed while I missed out because of being a born-in JW. I'm now in my mid 30's and entrenched within this religion , and as far as the past couple years are concered, "I find no pleasure in them." When I'm around older JWs at the KH, or assemblies, or in field service, I'm under the impression that despite all the years they spent serving The Watchtower Jehovah, if they were to be completely honest with me and themselves, they'd express that the years of their youth were possibly wasted. And as far as their current years serving The Watchtower Jehovah, they "find no pleasure in them."
The following part, "Inculcate God's Word In Little Hearts (Deut 6:4-7; 31:12)", should be entitled, "Inculcate Watchtower Doctrine In Your Children".

Bethel - the house of the canaanite god El
by mP inhow ironic, that in hebrew the word for god is actually the name of a canaanite god el.
ive recently been facinated by the etymology of word, particularly those in the bible.
anyone can change the meanings or definition of words like we have witnessed with the generation, but the word itself cannot be changed.

The Beatles, for the life of me I don't understand how their so called legacy is determined. I was browsing through Rolling Stone magazine's 500 Greatest Albums list while waiting in line at the deli today. The Beatles entire discography can be found within the 500 with like 3 or 4 of their albums within the top twenty and the number one album of the entire 500 list is their Sgt Pepper album. Don't get me wrong, they were definately talented, but c'mon already. Granted it's Rolling Stone magazine and their reviews are shit and not to be trusted, but there's plenty of people who would agree with the the positions given to The Beatles within the list, and I just don't get it.
